George Sarantou was elected to a third term as an at-large member of Toledo City Council on November 3, 2009. He is employed by Brennan Financial, LTD. (New England Financial) as a Registered Representative, marketing numerous investment and insurance products to businesses, families and individuals. He is a leader in sales with many notable accomplishments and a member of the Leaders Association.

His skills in finance, as well as his passion for community service are valued assets to Toledo City Council. As Chairman of the city’s Human Resources, Information Technology & Finance Committee he is a strong proponent of sound fiscal policies. He works diligently with the city administration to find solutions to budget challenges. He is dedicated to job creation and retention through his involvement in the city’s economic development efforts.
 
Councilman Sarantou has been a longtime proponent of lowering the costs of electric and natural gas utilities in Toledo and Northwest Ohio. He has worked closely with consumers, the Ohio Consumers Counsel, state legislators, and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to lower utility rates for residential and commercial customers. 
 
He is a member of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Government Transportation Council, a member of the Downtown Toledo Parking Authority Board of Directors, a member of the Downtown Toledo Improvement District Board of Directors and a member of the WGTE Public Broadcasting Board of Trustees.
 
He also served on numerous community boards including the Neighborhood Health Association from 1996-2002, where he served as president of the board from 1998 to 2001; the Frederick Douglas Community Association, where he served as Board President from 1996-1998; Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where he served as the President, Board of Trustees from 1991-1994; Chairman of the Greek American Festival, 1989-1993; and the Westgate Toledo Exchange Club, where he served as President in 1982. He is an active member in the Partners in Education Program for Toledo Public Schools and a reading mentor for Ohio Reads at McKinley Elementary School (alma mater).
 
Councilman Sarantou joined New England Financial in 1982 and qualified for the Leaders Association numerous times. In 1987 he became a sales manager and achieved the Agency Builders Award for Sales Manager in 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1996. 
 
Councilman Sarantou is a 1970 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and a 1974 graduate of The Ohio State University. In 2009 he was inducted into the DeVilbiss High School Hall of Fame. The father of three daughters, Councilman Sarantou and his wife Barbara reside in West Toledo.
