Ensuring Community Safety
As a career fire fighter and first responder, I believe that public safety is the City government's first and most basic function. Toledo residents and business owners must be confident that if they dial 911, fire and emergency personnel will arrive quickly - no matter where the call. They must know that enough police are deployed on the streets to deter criminal behavior and respond to safety emergencies rapidly. This is a basic quality of life issue, but it is also an economic development issue. Businesses will not locate or expand in a community where safety is in question.
Create Jobs Through Developing Our Regional Economy
Toledo must restore its reputation as a city where it is easy to locate and grow a business. The means eliminating barriers and making the City business-ready for opportunities that come to us through the area's lead economic development professionals. It also means cooperating with our suburban partners to ensure economic vitality for the entire region.
Stabilize Our Neighborhoods
One of Toledo's great strengths is our neighborhoods. Unfortunately, defaults and foreclosures have left many homes abandon across the city and there are too many examples of once proud neighborhoods that are approaching a tipping point. The Bell administration will work to restore vitality to our neighborhoods by focusing on practical, workable solutions and enforcing a commitment that delivering utility and city services will be a priority.
Encourage Our Health & Wellness
I'm a former college athlete. I'm also a firefighter and I understand the importance of health to safety and rescue. The healthiest cities have low disease, low BMI, good air and water quality, healthy births and other key indicators. I will work to creatively support and encourage our health and wellness in Toledo by working with our community partners and ensuring that Toledoans at all income levels are able to pursue healthy lifestyle choices.
