City of Toledo officials joined with volunteers from Toledo Free Ride for a ribbon cutting at the new Jermain Park Mountain Bike Trail on Saturday, October 2nd to mark the trails ceremonial grand opening to the public. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was part of an all day event for biking enthusiasts and included cyclocross demonstrations, races, and displays from local bike shops.
Toledo Free Ride worked with Division of Parks and Forestry personnel to determine the best location and route for the new trail and skills areas, and sought the support of the City of Toledo Parks Commission and the Ottawa-Jermain Park Board. The 3.28 mile loop includes multiple twists, turns and climbs, and was constructed entirely by volunteers over the course of two months this summer. Future improvements will be added including bridges, log skinnys, teeter-totters, a pump track and technical skills area.
Those interested in volunteering for future trail improvements or looking for more information about the park may contact Tim Burns with the City of Toledo Division of Parks & Forestry at 419 936-2896 or via email at timothy.burns@toledo.oh.gov; or Toledo Free Ride at toledofreeride@gmail.com.
