The City of Toledo will once again offer the Garden Partners program in an effort to maintain urban beautification projects in neighborhoods throughout the city despite the recent budget challenges.
Garden Partners is a volunteer program managed by the Division of Parks and Forestry and enables citizens interested in maintaining public flowerbeds to add beauty and life to the city. Volunteers are asked to commit to maintaining flowerbeds for the entire season and are responsible for working out an approved site plan and design with city officials, remove weeks, prepare soil for and plant flowers, water the gardens, and remove flowers at the close of the season in October.
Several individuals and community organizations have already committed to the 2010 program in various areas of the city. Volunteers include Bishop Landscaping, the Toledo Fire Department, Highland Park Neighbors, Women of the Old West End, Friends of Pickford Park, and other private residents.
Those wishing to adopt a garden for the 2010 season are invited to contact Doug Trueman in the City of Toledo Division of Parks and Forestry at 419-467-1841 to select an area and receive a copy of the Guidelines For Adoption. A copy of the Guidelines is also available online for review at www.toledo.oh.gov. Site selection should be made in coordination with the Division of Parks and Forestry.
