City Files Request with SERB in Response to Illegal Work Stoppage
By mrobson @ 9:51 AM :: 2335 Views :: Mayor's Office, Department of Law

The State Employment Relations Board (SERB) has declined the City of Toledo’s emergency request for designation of illegal strike based on their judgment that there was not a demonstrated continuing or recurring threat of illegal strike and that the action more appropriately constitutes pursuit of an unfair labor practice charge.

The Administration appreciates the Board’s deliberation of the facts and at their recommendation has filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with SERB for further consideration of the illegal work stoppage.

Safety Director Shirley Green reiterated the Bell administration’s pledge to make public safety the highest priority and emphasized that any future actions by TPPA members, like that which occurred on April 5th and 6th will not be tolerated. Allegations of neglect of duty will be investigated thoroughly and the response will follow the letter of the law, the contract and departmental policy.

Green further called for the TPPA to affirmatively disavow any future episodes of the "blue flu", but thanked the officers that continue to fulfill their duty to the citizens of Toledo.
