Mayor Bell Responds to Ruling on Temporary Restraining Order
By mrobson @ 2:31 PM :: 1885 Views :: Mayor's Office

Following Judge Jensen’s ruling on the request by the Toledo Police Patrolmen’s Association for a Temporary Restraining Order against the City of Toledo enjoining enforcement of exigent circumstances, Mayor Michael P. Bell issued the following statement:

“The court’s decision today demonstrates that those outside of our system understand the dynamic implications of this issue on our public safety. I’m relieved that I didn’t have to lay off 125 police officers today. I respect and appreciate the work our police do and believe it is important to preserve the jobs of those officers in order to protect our community.   While litigation continues, we will move forward with the exigency effective April 1st.”

Council voted 8-4 on Tuesday evening in favor of declaring exigent circumstances, which will modestly increase the TPPA members’ healthcare contribution and will eliminate the requirement that the City pay the employee share of pension contributions.
