RE-ENTRY/REMEDIATION PROGRAM
The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Training Bureau has developed a program for the firefighter who has been removed from active duty for an extended period of time due to illness or injury. This will assist the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department's efforts to be NFPA 1500 compliant. (NFPA 1500 section 8 - 7 Post-injury / Illness Rehabilitation 8-7.1. It shall be an ongoing objective of the fire department to assist members affected by occupational injuries or illness in their rehabilitation and to facilitate their return to full active duty or limited duty where possible.)
The firefighter's Chief Officer or Operations Deputy will determine who will be a candidate for the re-entry program. The re-entry / remediation program, as titled, is also available for remediation of line personnel or line companies.
The re-entry / remediation program is a two week program that is broken down into ten, one day modules. The program can be administered in its entirety, or it can be tailored to the firefighter's needs or the Battalion Chief's request.
To obtain the complete re-entry / remediation program, send an E-mail to Captain James Aldridge at james.aldridge@toledo.oh.gov
NEW COMMAND CONTROL NURSING HOME SIMULATION NOW AVAILABLE ON US FIRE ADMINISTRATION'S VIRTUAL CAMPUS
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response is offering a new command and control, online simulation for emergency responders involving a scenario at a Nursing Home Facility. The Q424 Nursing Home Fire simulation presents the user with a kitchen fire in a two-story nursing home. Upon successful completion of this online simulation course, the user will be able to recognize the rescue issues related to this type of occupancy -- those people who have differing medical problems and those people who are visiting.
Course objectives include safe removal of all occupants and containment control of fire in the building of origin. National Fire Academy/United States Fire Administration certification will be granted upon successful completion of the course evaluations.
The course can be found on USFA's Virtual Campus at: http://www.training.fema.gov. The USFA has many other training programs, both online and classroom-based, that are designed to assist emergency responders in becoming better prepared for all types of emergencies. Information on these training programs and other USFA initiatives and publications can be found at www.usfa.fema.gov.
